# Connections

> Connect provider accounts and SIP trunks that supply your phone numbers.

Open **Numbers** → **Connections**. Connections are provider accounts and SIP trunks that supply your numbers.

| Kind | Dashboard label | Who hosts telephony |
| - | - | - |
| Persistence-managed | **Platform-managed** | Persistence buys and bills the number. |
| Provider account | **Customer-managed** | Your Twilio, Telnyx, or other account. |
| SIP trunk | **Custom SIP** | Your own SIP infrastructure. |

## Add a connection

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Connections">
    Go to **Numbers** → **Connections** and select **Add connection**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose the path">
    **Connect provider** authorizes numbers from a provider and imports them in bulk. **Connect with SIP** is for telecom teams that already have trunks.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Name it">
    Use a name your team will recognize, for example `US contact center`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Import or add numbers">
    After the connection exists, import numbers from the provider or add SIP numbers you already own.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Empty state: **No connections yet** / **Connect a provider account or SIP so your agents can use those numbers.**

Supported provider labels include **Twilio**, **Telnyx**, **Plivo**, **Exotel**, **Vobiz**, and **Custom SIP**. The options you see depend on the workspace.

## Connect with SIP

**SIP trunks route numbers you already own — connect one, then add its numbers.**

Configure:

* **Provider** — the telephony provider behind this trunk
* **SIP termination URL** — the destination your phone provider gave you
* Optional SIP username, password, from domain, and transport
* Inbound trunk details if this connection receives calls

Test inbound routing before you assign agents.

## Assign agents

Open a number on the connection to set **Incoming agent** and **Outgoing agent**. You can use the same agent for both.

Deactivating a number keeps the connection and the inventory row. Settings do not take effect until you reactivate it.

## Remove a connection

Deleting a connection removes its numbers from the workspace. Provider data is not deleted. Confirm no campaign, pool, or workflow still depends on those numbers.
